The Idea Laboratory®

The Völklingen Ironworks has always been a place of the highest technical innovation and evolution. To the present day, the former Röchling's Iron and Steelworks and its successors continue to head the worldwide list of patent holders in iron and steel.

The Weltkulturerbe Völklinger Hütte (World Cultural Heritage Site at the Völklingen Ironworks) has succeeded in perpetuating the magic of the place. The ore shed and historic silo, once home to the ironwork's greatest treasure, iron ore, have now become facilitative to modern man's greatest treasure; ideas and creative postulation.

The Völklingen Ironworks was a prosperous, industrial site. Today, it retains its prosperity as an outstanding example of structural change in Saarland and, indeed, the greater region.

The idea laboratory® is a workshop and think tank for people who want to try their hand at designing and shaping tomorrow's world with their creative talents and ideas. The ideas lab generates food for thought regarding the future and is part of the future strategy of Saarland. Under 'laboratory conditions', and with modern presentation techniques, based on a method developed for future workshops, the spotlight falls on the central issues of the future.

It is the task and aim of the idea laboratory®, in which you too can participate, to formulate ideas and views concerning the future based on the experience of individuals and their abilities.

The results from the idea laboratory® will be incorporated in: 'Genius I - the Mission: discover, research, invent' from May 2007 in the Weltkulturerbe Völklinger Hütte.
