The ore shed once accommodated the ironwork's treasured and most important raw material, iron ore. Having undergone a transformation into a cultural center, it is now the idea laboratory, where one can hold a dialogue with the future.
Whilst in bygone days the physical raw materials of ore and coal were the energy carriers necessary to the gargantuan industrial process, the raw materials of today's idea laboratory are the abstract visions and experiences of the participants.
Man bears the ideas which we hope will be propagated and developed to unleash their creative force. The Völkingen Ironworks could therefore be said to have resumed production, but whereas production used to be of largely physical matter, it has now been replaced by transformative, progressive and intellectual thought.
Weltkulturerbe Völklinger Hütte is an 'analogue place' in a digital world. Historically, it is the epitome of transformation, change and progress. We aim to continue this and, as such, the World Cultural Heritage Site is ploughing the way for the growth of tomorrow's genius.
