The Völklingen Ironworks has always been a place of the highest technical innovation and evolution. To the present day, the former Röchling's Iron and Steelworks and its successors in interest continue to head the worldwide list of patent holders in iron and steel.
The Weltkulturerbe Völklinger Hütte (World Cultural Heritage Site at the Völklingen Ironworks) has succeeded in perpetuating the magic of the place. Where once the treasure of the ironworks, iron ore, was stored, in the ore shed and the historic ore silo, we hope to awaken the greatest treasure of modern Man, his ideas and creativity for the future.
Once upon a time, the Völklingen Ironworks was a prosperous site of major industry. Today, it is one of the outstanding examples of structural change in Saarland and, indeed, the whole region.
The idea laboratory® is a workshop and think tank for people who want to help design and shape tomorrow's world with their creative ideas and the talents that are within them. The ideas lab formulates foods for thought for the future of the Saarland and is part of the future strategy of the Saarland.
Under 'laboratory conditions', and with the most modern presentation techniques, based on the method developed for the concept of future workshops, the spotlight will fall on the central issues of the future.

It is the task and aim of the idea laboratory® - of which you too can be a part – to generate jointly ideas and views of the future based on the experience of individuals and their abilities.
